Requirements
Now that you know how easy XcPhotoAlbum will make it to manage photos on your site,
you just need to determine what you need to use it.

XcPhotoAlbum is an Active Server Pages (ASP) web server application.
XcPhotoAlbum can be used with two different database technologies (Microsoft Jet and Microsoft SQL Server).
Microsoft's Jet database engine is suitable for small sites that do not have a heavy load of simultaneous users.
Jet utilizes an MDB file based database that should be familiar to users of Microsoft Access.
Please note that a JET database is simply the same type of database that Microsoft Access uses,
you do not need Microsoft Access at all, nor do you need it installed on your web server.
Larger sites, or those looking for the best in performance and reliability,
can take advantage of Microsoft SQL Server databases using Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 or later.
SQL Server databases can support much larger user loads and activity.
If you start with a JET database, you can always move up to a SQL Server database when it becomes needed.

| Web Server |
Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 4.0 or later. Compatible with Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 servers. IIS is the default web server for Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 servers. |
| Jet Database |
Microsoft Jet Data Access Components and ADO (MDAC version 2.5 or later recommended - available for download directly from the Microsoft web site at www.microsoft.com/data/ ). |
| SQL Database |
SQL Server 7.0, SQL Server 2000 or later, Microsoft MDAC (2.5 or later recommended - available for download directly from the Microsoft web site at www.microsoft.com/data/ ). |
| Email Component |
All XCENT web server applications support a wide variety of email components. See the FAQ article below for the most up to date list of email components supported.

| Upload Component |
With XcPhotoAlbum, you can upload images to be included in your photo albums via your browser. However, to take advantage of this feature, your web server must have an optional upload component installed. XcPhotoAlbum currently supports either Persits ASPUpload, ASP Simple Upload, ASP Smart Upload, or SoftwareArtisans SA-FileUp. If you will be using an ISP's shared web server, contact your ISP to see if they support these upload components. If you are using your own server, these upload components are third-party products and are not provided as part of XcPhotoAlbum. |
| Imaging Component |
XcPhotoAlbum can automatically generate thumbnails of uploaded images and display them in various views on your site. Like the Upload Component, this is also an optional feature and requires a third-party component to function. Currently supported Imaging Components are: ASPImage from ServerObjects.com. If you are using a shared web server at an ISP, check with your ISP to see if they support this component. If you are using your own server, this component is a third-party product and is not provided as part of XcPhotoAlbum. Note: While XcPhotoAlbum will operate without an Imaging Component, we do highly recommend it to get the most out of XcPhotoAlbum. |
To see if your current web server or ISP supports XcPhotoAlbum and other Active Server Pages (ASP) applications,
try the free XCENT diagnostic utility XcDiag.
This is available on the XCENT web site at http://www.xcent.com/products.htm.
The XcDiag utility will tell you about the IIS installation and some of the installed components on the web server.
If you are using a shared ISP server, you can use XcDiag to verify if any optional components are installed
on the web server. However, please always verify this with your ISP. To use the utility, you simply copy the
XcDiag.asp file to your web site and try to access the file from your browser using HTTP. If your server supports ASP,
then you will see the information about your server and it should look something like shown below.
